The Mayor and City Council have a dream to raise $500,000 for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Children’s Library section of the Lewis Library and Technology Center. As Fontana City Councilmember Acquanetta Warren explains, "In 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his famous 'I Have a Dream' speech. Today, we ask that you support our dream to raise funds for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Children’s Library. We are not a wealthy community capable of funding this construction on our own – we need your help!" Fontana is the 5th fastest growing city in the state and the 8th fastest growing city in the nation – population 183,640 and growing. Our community is currently being served out of a 1960 library facility that served Fontana when our size was 1/8th our current size! Fontana is also a melting pot with 12% Black, 60% Hispanic, 25% White, with a wide variety of cultures and languages. Roughly 41% of our 42,000 school-age children in the classrooms are designated English Language Learners. That’s 17,176 kids who need your help. On behalf of the children of our community and our region, help eliminate the following quote from our County Librarian, Dr. Ed Kieczykowski: “Fontana is the most underserved community of its size in the State of California when it comes to available library resources.” To discuss donor opportunities for the Dr. Martin Luther King Junior Children’s Library, please contact Kathleen Fariss, Director of Development, at (909) 350-6586 or kfariss@fontana.org. Thank you in advance for being a part of our dream. Only together can we ensure the strength of our community. | |
