Energy Efficiency

  • The building energy systems have been commissioned to insure they are performing as designed.

  • The Library is designed and constructed to be 33.6% more energy efficient than California’s 2001 Title-24 energy code. This represents an annual savings of more than $57,000 in energy costs based on today’s utility rates. It also represents a reduction of over 40 tons of CO2 per year compared to a code minimum building.

  • Energy Efficiency measures included in the Library: High efficiency lighting; Lighting occupant control sensors; Daylighting controls; Additional roof insulation; High efficiency water cooled chillers; Variable speed pumps; Variable speed fan controls

Ozone Protection

  • Many of the chemicals used in building HVAC refrigerants and fire suppression systems emit compounds that deplete the ozone in our atmosphere and contribute to climate change. The Library’s HVAC and fire suppression systems do not contain CFCs, HCFCs or Halons.
