Fontana Library Foundation Announces

“Give Today to Enrich Tomorrow: A Capital Campaign”

Release Date: April 24, 2006

Located in the Civic Center at 8473 Sierra Ave. in the city of Fontana, a building is under construction that will forever change the landscape of our community and the lives of its residents – the regional Fontana Library and Resource/Technology Center. Opening in the spring of 2008, this new, 93,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art Library will be a place where people can meet, study, read and engage in a variety of other lifelong learning opportunities.

As Mayor Nuaimi explains, “Fontana’s new library will signify a wonderful new accomplishment for this community. The project will represent another … investment into the downtown. This facility will serve as a haven for learning and growing so that Fontana residents of any age, any income level, or from any background can prosper and achieve great things.”

In order to fund this vital new addition to the region, Mayor Mark Nuaimi and the City Council, in partnership with the Fontana Library Foundation and the County of San Bernardino, are pleased to announce “Give Today to Enrich Tomorrow: A Capital Campaign” for the Fontana Library and Resource/Technology Center. The campaign’s goal is to raise $20 million to offset construction costs and provide public art and service enhancements to the new Library. The 4th Annual Mayor’s Gala, an Evening under the City Lights, held on April 8 was the first capital campaign fundraising, raising over $160 thousand for the new Library.

To help the capital campaign reach its $20 million goal, an Executive Planning Committee has been formed. This committee’s tasks will include, among other things, setting milestones and fundraising objectives, directing overall solicitation efforts, and identifying donor prospects. Many community and business leaders have already agreed to serve on the committee including: Bill Meyer, CEO, Kaiser Permanente; Dr. Albert Karnig, President, Cal State San Bernardino; Christie Gordon, Bank of America Foundation; Randall Lewis, Lewis Operating Company; Marie Waddingham, Rotolo Chevrolet; Susan Harlow, Associate Vice Chancellor, Development, University of California, Riverside; Rod Guge, Coldwell Banker-Foothill Properties; Angel Santiago, Inland Empire Utility Agency; Mark Bertone, Madole & Associates; and Jim Hill, Engagement Manager, State and Local Government, Microsoft.
